InterShip Navigation Training Center - History
History of
Intership Navigation Training Center, Inc. (ISN-TC)
Intership Navigation Co. Ltd (ISN), a shipping company based in Limassol Cyprus and its affiliated companies in Europe decided in 1994 to train Filipino graduates of Marine Transportation and Marine Engineering for its ships to be ship officers in the future. Together with the Philimare manning agency, a system of selection and a training program was developed.
In early part of 1994, ISN selected its first 40 Filipino cadets and provided them with three months shore-training at Philimare Marine Training Center (PMTC) in Sta.Cruz, Manila. PMTC is the forerunner of ISN-TC. Safety and Practical works on board the vessels are the priority subjects during the training. Some of the instructors at PMTC in 1994 are presently teaching at ISNTC.

By mid 1994, after the completion of the three months shore training, the Cadets were sent to Leer, Germany for training at the vessel “ WALTER HERWIG” . They took courses in Fire-fighting, Survival Craft and Rescue, First Aid, Seamanship and practical engineering works and were issued German Certificates.
After about one month, in-groups of 2-4, they were sent to their assigned vessels, where they continued to develop their skills during a further 10 month on-board training where they follow a training program similar to the CHED-ISF system being used now.

Three groups were trained in PMTC and “WALTER HERWIG” until 1996.
Continuous training of cadets every year until the present time was sustained due to increasing size of the ISN fleet.

At the end of 1998 the premises of PMTC became small due to increasing number of trainees.
It was decided to transfer to a new location which happened to be Don Bosco Training Center in Tondo, Manila where ISN cadets were being trained in welding. Don Bosco is a Catholic organization of Salesian Fathers dedicated to the welfare of the young. They offered ISN two unused barracks situated on the Don Bosco premises.
It is when the Intership Navigation Training Center (ISNTC) was incorporated as a non-stock, non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the knowledge of Filipino seamen.
